Triple Play: Dodgers force decisive Game 5 in NLDS

Mookie Betts homered for the second straight night, Shohei Ohtani hit an RBI single and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat Dylan Cease and the San Diego Padres 8-0 on Wednesday night to force a deciding Game 5 in their tense NL Division Series. Will Smith and Gavin Lux each hit a two-run homer for the Dodgers, who snapped a two-game losing streak and now return home for the next matchup between the NL West rivals on Friday night. The Padres won 10-2 at Dodger Stadium in Game 2 on Sunday night, when tempers flared on the field and in the stands. The winner will have home-field advantage in the National League Championship Series against the New York Mets, who eliminated the Philadelphia Phillies in their NLDS.

California Proposition 32: Raising statewide minimum wage

California Proposition 32: Raising statewide minimum wage

California voters will decide whether to increase the state’s minimum wage by $2, from $16 to $18 an hour. The proposal would increase the minimum wage at different speeds depending on the size of a company. For employers with 26 or more employees, the minimum wage would go up on Jan. 1, 2025. For smaller companies, it would go up on Jan. 1, 2026. Yearly increases thereafter would be tied to the consumer price index. Supporters of the proposal say its a necessary boost for workers amidst rising housing costs while opponents argue that the wage increase would put financial stress on businesses who in turn would compensate by raising service and good prices.

Today on AirTalk, we discuss Prop 32 and hear how it will affect workers and businesses with Joe Sanberg, anti-poverty advocate and main financial backer of the proposal and John Kabateck, California State Director for the National Federation of Independent Business.

Measure G: Should LA County expand the number of supervisors on its board?

Measure G: Should LA County expand the number of supervisors on its board?

Measure G, if passed this November, would increase the number of L.A. County Supervisors from five to nine. The proposal comes from Supervisors Lindsay Horvath and Janice Hahn, who crafted the measure and have been vocal about needing more members in order to effectively govern LA County. As it stands, each supervisor oversees a district of about 2 million people. In a county that is more populous than most states, Horvath and others agree that expanding and reshaping LA County’s governance is necessary. Those in opposition, including Supervisor Holly Mitchell of LA’s 2nd district, say the change would cost too much money and drain county resources. Joining us today on AirTalk to discuss the measure is Supervisor Lindsey Horvath, 3rd district supervisor.

Today on AirTalk, we speak to Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon about his current term, and what to expect if re-elected.
