Latest on the Andrew Do investigation as federal grand jury investigates daughter’s nonprofit

A public court filing reviewed by LAist says a federal grand jury has been investigating the nonprofit at the center of a swirling controversy over what happened to millions in federal tax dollars O.C. Supervisor Andrew Do gave the group that was meant to feed needy seniors. This follows an August 22 search of Do’s home by FBI and IRS agents, whose federal investigation into the O.C. Supervisor has been secretive. Joining us to discuss his latest reporting on this investigation into O.C. Supervisor Andrew Do is Nick Gerda, senior reporter of unhoused communities for LAist.

The state of youth sports in LA County and California

The L.A. County Youth Sports Survey is done every two years and this year the research was expanded to all of California as the 2024 California Play Equity Report. It looked at gaps in play equity and barriers in participation of youth sports, especially when it comes to gender, cost and more. It also found nearly two-thirds of kids in California aren’t meeting federal guidelines for physical activity. Joining to discuss all the major findings and how we can address the gaps in youth sports is Renata Simril, president and CEO of the LA84 foundation.

The art of the sandwich is amplified at a new Santa Monica eatery

There’s a new sandwich shop in town and it’s aptly called Bread Head. Opened recently by two longtime friends and accomplished chefs, Bread Head prides itself on a custom focaccia and locally sourced ingredients. The road to a storefront began with pop up shops, years of perfecting their sandwiches and partnerships that have allowed co-owners Alex Williams and Jordan Snyder to envision not just one Bread Head location but many. The first location opened this past June and they’re currently working on their second location. Joining us today on AirTalk to discuss their new sandwich joint are the co-owners of Bread Head, Alex Williams and Jordan Snyder.
