You have T-minus 17 days to get clever/spooky/bloody Halloween costumes for you and your kids ready for action, folks. I repeat, 17 days left to get everything sewn, cut out, and dyed (or, I suppose, bought) for the most creative holiday of the year

But maybe you’ve had your costume ready for months or you’ll just dig around in the closet at the last minute, leaving you time to check out some of the best things to do this week, like heading to one of the many L.A. Tech Week events or getting some fashion inspo at the new Diane von Furstenberg exhibit at the Skirball.

For more to explore, visit LAist.com where you can get the latest on the new home being built for the Endeavor space shuttle, learn about the best cheap eats in West Hollywood, and get your ticket for Tuesday’s Ballot Cram Session with AirTalk host Larry Mantle so you’re ready for Nov. 5!

There are some really great events happening throughout the week in honor of Indigenous Peoples’ Day. To start, maybe take a day trip to Idyllwild to celebrate with Idyllwild Arts on Oct. 14. The organization is hosting events all day at their Idyllwild campus and the day culminates in an evening performance by the Delbert Anderson Quartet (DAQ), led by Diné jazz trumpet artist Delbert Anderson. At the California Native Plant Society, there’s a free online workshop from 7-8:30 p.m. with master gardener Denise Godbout-Avant, who will teach about how the original inhabitants of California used plants in their everyday lives. And at the San Dimas Canyon Nature Center, the short documentary “Saging the World” will screen on Oct. 16 and attendees can also make their own dreamcatchers at the event.
