For more than three years, renters in Los Angeles County have been protected from eviction due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Those protections expired on March 31 and renters have a lot of questions about what that means. Navigating these changes could be daunting. Government websites are confusing. Online advice is often conflicting. Understanding which regulations apply to your situation is no easy task, so we’re here to help. In this live event, housing reporter David Wagner (he/him) and community engagement reporter Julia Barajas (she/her), along with a panel of experts in the field, will answer your questions live. ABOUT JONATHAN JAGER
Jonathan Jager is a Staff Attorney in the Housing and Communities Workgroup at the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles. His work includes litigation, transactional, and policy-based strategies to increase and preserve affordable housing. Jonathan's transactional clients include community land trusts and nonprofit affordable housing developers across Southern California. His litigation focuses on preserving individual and property-based housing subsidies. Jonathan is a graduate of Columbia University and the UCLA School of Law.

ABOUT JAVIER BELTRAN
Javier Beltran currently serves as the Deputy Director for the Housing Rights Center. He previously worked at the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles (LAFLA) where he was a Managing Attorney for the Preventing and Ending Homelessness Project and also served as Managing Attorney for the LAFLA’s Santa Monica office. Javier began working with legal non-profit providers in April 2008 with Inner City Law Center (ICLC) as a Staff Attorney litigating slum housing lawsuits and defending tenants in eviction cases. He eventually became Directing Attorney for their Homelessness Prevention Department. Before ICLC, he practiced civil litigation for an Orange County law firm and immigration law for a Sherman Oaks law firm. Javier received a BA in History from California State University Los Angeles and a JD from Southwestern University School of Law.

ABOUT AMY TANNENBAUM

Amy Tannenbaum (she/her) is a supervising staff attorney on Public Counsel’s StayHousedLA team, providing eviction defense services across LA County. Prior to joining Public Counsel, she was an attorney fellow at Community Legal Service in East Palo Alto’s Economic Advancement Project, focusing on employment-related collateral consequences of eviction records. She also clerked in the Central District of California. Amy is a graduate of Stanford Law School and Hamilton College. She is a proud member of the National Lawyers Guild and serves as a solidarity attorney for the Los Angeles Tenants Union and the Compton Tenants Union.
