Vice President, Technology & Operations (he/him)

Doug Johnson is Vice President of Technology and Operations of Southern California Public Radio, a member supported public media organization. Doug oversees one of the largest public radio station operations in the United States including 89.3 KPCC-FM, 89.1 KUOR-FM in the Inland Empire, 90.3 KVLA-FM in the Coachella Valley and 89.5 KJAI-FM in Ojai, with both a Palm Springs and Santa Barbara translator. With nearly 650,000 listeners each week, SCPR is the most listened to public radio news service in Southern California.

Doug manages several departments including Operations, Engineering, Production, Facilities and is the point person for shared IT services. Most recently he was the lead project manager for the new 7000 sq. ft. expansion space for SCPR’s bourgeoning podcast production team (under the LAist Studios banner).

Over the years he has been involved in every major radio station advancement, including the transition to satellite-based program distribution from National Public Radio, the relocation of KPCC-FM’s transmitters to Mt. Wilson and the complete upgrade to an all-digital broadcast facility. In 2010, Doug was one of the lead project managers for the state-of-the-art broadcast center build out in downtown Pasadena, with direct responsibility for the entire technical infrastructure.

Earlier in his career Doug hosted a variety of music shows on the station and continues to produce radio content today, where you can regularly hear his voice on many of LAist's (formerly KPCC) underwriting and promotional announcements.

Since 1990, Doug has held an adjunct professor position at Pasadena City College instructing an Audio Production course in the Television / Radio Department. In this position, Doug also serves as the internship coordinator with PCC students interested in interning at LAist and has recruited more than 200 students into the SCPR internship program.

Doug earned two broadcast certificates of achievement in both engineering and production from Pasadena City College before earning his AB from Long Beach State College in Broadcast Journalism. He was awarded a lifetime First Class Radio/Telephone Operator Permit from the Federal Communication Commission.
